Being a Vampire Lord, you will be more powerful because you will have quick access to a special skill tree with benefits. There are a total of 11 perks in the Vampire Lord skill tree. The right side of the skill tree deals with Blood Magic, the left side deals with Night Powers and the central column consists of passive perks.
By defeating enemies with a power bite or a Vampiric Drain, you will acquire progress to your next Vampire Lord perk. A perk is counted in Vampiric Drain attack when it kills the living creatures except rabbits and foxes. The non living creatures like undead, summoned creatures, or constructs do not help to gain any progress.
Every new perk requires a few more kills than your last kill. The first perk needs 5 kills with a power bite or Vampiric Drain, the second perk will require 6 kills, the third perk will require 9 kills, and the fourth one will require 10 kills, after this, with each new perk you will require to more kills than the last one. To complete the entire tree, you will need to feed altogether 156 times.
How to bite?
When you are in the vampire lord form, you want to feed on people to gain perks. But, how do you feed on them and reduce their lives?
You will have to wait until your target is asleep. Move to sneak mode and click try to pickpocket them. A screen will be represented questioning you if you want to pickpocket on the target or feed on the target. Make sure nobody is watching, because if you get caught, you will be in trouble and you will have to go to jail or pay a bounty.
An efficient way to do so is to hold the attack button and be ready for a power attack, when you know that this hit is gonna kill them. This works when the person begs for mercy by falling on their knees. It is quite easier to absorb essence in the caster mode by shooting your opponents with red life drain spell in the blood magic mode.

- When they are about to die, use a power attack.
- While they are sleeping, try to talk to them or try to pickpocket them, in order to feed them.
- Try to talk to them in the Dawnguard expansion after using a vampire seduction on them.
Daughter
Serana is the daughter of Lord Harkon and Valerica and an ancient pure blood vampire. Pure blood vampires are those who are granted vampirism from Molag Bal directly. She is central to the main questline in Dawnguard as she is known as one of the “Daughters of Coldharbour”. You can recruit her as a follower who can unlock a multitude of interactions.
Lord Harkon, her father, is the leader of the Volkihar Clan.
